Texas meets Tennessee
With most all of the blues/rock coming out of the mid west it’s no surprise that it’s starting
to find it’s way to Tennessee, and it’s coming with the name “Lovell Hill”. With the
increasing popularity of Texas Blues since the passing of Stevie Ray Vaughan, there
have been several bands that have came onto the music scene with scorching electric
blues guitar licks and soul stirring, foot patting groove however Lovell Hill is putting a
twist to Texas Blues with a definite southern sound. Sure, the guitar work
will set you to
mind of S.R.V and Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and it should, the guitarist Robb McMahan
works for Kenny Wayne and the influence is very apparent but that is what gives Lovell
Hill it’s unique sound. Who ever heard of Texas style guitar with a southern rock band?
Well I guess that’s what happens when Texas meets Tennessee. The rhythm section,
which is comprised of Mike “Mick” Shelton (drums) and Pat “P.D” Davis (bass guitar)
along with lead vocalist Donnie “Duck” Renner formally played in the southern rock band
“Hit ‘n Run”, who has opened for such artists as Delbert McClinton. When they hooked
up with Robb in late January 1999 it produced an electrifying combination of power
blues and southern rock that has became their trademark sound.
In the fall of 1999 the band released a limited edition promotional CD of some licensed
cover tunes of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robin Trower, Chris Duarte and The Arc Angels to
showcase their unique sound to the local east Tennessee club circuit. They had no idea
that the promo CD would become so in demand that they would get requests for the CD
as far away as Dallas, Texas and would be showcased on a blues radio program from
the University of Arkansas. After several requests they uploaded some of the songs from
this CD to Mp3.com where they have quickly been added to many blues and rock
streaming “stations”. They also received a request from the folks at Nirve TV
for a video that can be viewed on the “basement tapes” portion of their website. After the repeated requests for a full length CD, Lovell Hill is now in the
process of recording and is scheduled to release their debut CD on Mp3.com this fall.
“We had no idea all of this would happen” says Robb, “All we knew is that we were
having a ball.”
You can check out some of the tracks from the limited edition CD now at
http://www.mp3.com/lovellhill and they are planning on releasing the entire limited edition
CD for sale within the next month until the much-anticipated Lovell Hill debut CD is
available on Mp3.com in August or September.

Sheishé Who?
Sheishé (pronounced She-shay) started her career at the age of five,
singing in her Jersey basement to the likes of The Supremes. She no
doubt experienced her first bit of Samba-influenced music singing along to
"Our Day Will Come". After an extensive
three year classical singing program in her teens, Sheishé won the coveted
position of "Descant Soprano" (the "piccolo" of the
soprano section). Armed with a four octave voice and mainstream
ambitions, she fronted a dance rock band named "Ulterior
Motive", but six months into that gig she earned the distinction of
being kicked out of her own band.
After a three year sabbatical, the artist came back to form the power trio,
"Sheishé" and the Homeboys". She wanted to create a
female version of Stewart Copeland and Terry Bozio with a little Sheila E.
thrown in. This collaboration produced a five song EP entitled
"It Could Be Just About Anything". During the following
years, the singer worked with numerous musicians but her
"Sheishé" handle stuck. Meaning graciousness, purity and
honesty in many languages, the name embraced what the artist had been
struggling to achieve all her young life.
Sheishé having taught herself to play a six piece trap drum set, became the
Phil Collins of her own self-titled band, boasting an impressive line up of
top LA musicians. Her sold-out performances have been fueled by
Sheishé's prolific yet distinctive songwriting, influenced by the
like of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Sergio Mendez, Sade, Chrissy Hynde, Debbie
Harry and UB40. Among her audience's favorites are a potpourri of
Latin and Island dance songs that are commercially viable, yet extremely
fresh. Her unique brand of music has been commissioned by everyone
from the Princess of Morocco to Hugh Hefner & Jon Landau (Producer of
"Titanic").
Sheishé has had the honor of playing in the company of such talents as long
time friend
Mark Lennon, of the band "Venice", singer Lisa Simone (daughter of
Nina), percussionist Luis Conte, guitarists Peter White, Louis Metoyer, of
"Terence Trent Darby's" new band, Cecilia Noël, Mark Antoine (who
claims Sheishé does the best Basia he's ever heard), Poncho Sanchez and
keyboard legend Joe Sample. Her
latest CD, "Naughty Doll", delves deeper into Sambas and Bossa
Novas.
Sheishé's two CDs, "Relentless"
and "Naughty Doll" are available for listening and purchase at MP3.com.
